Rated NC-17, 158 min. - subtitled

This is the latest film from Ang Lee, the Academy Award-winning director of Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. A startling erotic espionage thriller, it stars Asian cinema icon Tony Leung opposite screen newcomer Tang Wei. Set in Shanghai, prior to and during the Japanese occupation, the story follows a group of Chinese students and one young woman in particular as they plan the assassination of a top Japanese collaborator. The young woman becomes the mistress of their target leading to complications of the mind and heart. The film is note worthy for its recreation of life in Shanghai during World War II and for its powerful scenes of sexuality.

An elegant, erotic movie...mixes daring and delicacy with a master?s touch. - Richard Corliss, Time Magazine
