Bill Murray proves himself to be a character actor of unexpected depth and charm in his remarkable portrayal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The always reliable Laura Linney portrays a distant cousin, working as a personal assistant, who has an affair with the president. Based on historical records, the story unfolds in June 1939, when the president hosts the King and Queen of England at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park in upstate New York. With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. International affairs, the running of a presidential estate, and summer night dalliances all combine to make for wonderful, humorous and moving entertainment.
